Why do we talk about transparent backgrounds?

At Tissus Print, most of our customized textiles are printed using DTF (Direct To Film).

This technology allows your design to be printed directly onto the garment with excellent color and detail quality.

But there is one important point to keep in mind:

With DTF printing, all colors are printed, including white.

This means that if your logo is saved on a white background, the white background will also be printed onto the textile.

Example:
Imagine a black logo saved on a white sheet of paper: The white background will be printed around the logo.

Result: you get a visible white rectangle on your T-shirt.

Conversely: If your file has a transparent background, only the useful part of the logo will be printed.

The result is much cleaner and more professional.

PNG and JPEG: what's the difference?

The JPEG (or JPG) format

JPEG is the most common format.

It is the format used by most cameras and smartphones.

Characteristics:

  • Small file size.
  • Compatible everywhere.
  • Background is always visible.
  • Transparency cannot be preserved.

JPEG is therefore ideal for photos, but rarely for a logo intended for DTF printing.

The PNG format

PNG is particularly well suited to logos and designs intended for textile printing.

Characteristics:

Good image quality
Compatible with transparent backgrounds
Ideal for logos
Perfect for DTF printing
This is generally the format we recommend for logos.

How do I know if my file has a transparent background?
A transparent background does not appear white.

In graphic design software, it is generally represented by a gray and white checkerboard.

If you see a white area behind your logo, that white is probably actually present in the file.

How can I remove a logo background for free?
Solution 1: Photopea (free)
Photopea works directly in your browser and looks similar to Photoshop.

Steps:

Open Photopea.
Click "File" then "Open".
Import your logo.
Select the white background with the magic wand.
Press Delete.
Check that the checkerboard appears behind the logo.
Click "File" then "Export as PNG".
Your logo now has a transparent background.

Solution 2: Canva Pro
If you use Canva Pro:

Import your logo.
Select the image.
Click "Edit image".
Choose "Background Remover".
Download the file in PNG format.
Enable the "Transparent background" option.
That's it.

Solution 3: Automatic online tools
Several websites can automatically remove a background in just a few seconds.

The principle is simple:

Upload your image.
The tool detects the subject.
The background is automatically removed.
Download the result in PNG format.
This method is perfectly suitable for simple logos.

What if I want to keep my background?
No problem.

Some designs intentionally require a colored background or border.

In that case:

You can keep your background.
The background will be printed exactly as it appears in your file.
The important thing is simply to know that everything visible in your design will be printed onto the textile.

A few tips for getting a great result
Use a good-quality image
Avoid screenshots or blurry images.

The sharper your file, the more precise the printing will be.

Avoid logos that are too small
Very fine details can become difficult to read once printed.

Prefer PNG for logos
